WPC16 is The World’s Greatest Pokémon Competition

What if you could travel the world and play Pokémon wpc16 at the same time? Well, if you’re headed to one of these cities, you can! This year, Pokémon will be holding its biggest annual competition yet WPC16 (the World Pokémon Championship.WPC16 will take place in six major cities around the world during August and September – but there’s still time to register!

What is WPC?

WPC stands for World Pokémon Championship and is an annual event organized by Nintendo. Each year, competitors from around the world gather to play one of several video games based on Nintendo’s Pokémon franchise.

Top finishers qualify for a trip to Washington D.C., where they compete at Nationals before qualifying for Worlds in San Francisco, California. This year will be my first time competing at WPC, but I’ve been playing competitively since 2010. Here are some things you should know about me:

I started playing competitively back in 2010 after watching a few videos online about Pokémon’s strategy. Since then I’ve played every season of every video game (with some exceptions). My favorite Pokémon is Tyranitar because it has great stats and typing; plus its Mega Evolution looks awesome!

Steps to Register

One of Pokémon’s most cherished events, WPC16 is widely considered to be one of the biggest and most prestigious Pokémon competitions in history. To be eligible for WPC16, all you need to do is win four qualifying tournaments with at least eight players present at each.

If you manage to win a tournament during a major weekend-long event (such as an online season, local league cup, or store championship), your result will count towards your application for WPC16!

A Bit of History

WPC was started in 2004 by a group of fan players. It has been hosted every year in various locations around the world. It is traditionally hosted during summer, but not always.

WPC16 is being held near Mexico City and more than 600 players from over 20 countries are coming to compete! There will be tournaments for singles, doubles, triples, and RPS (Rock Paper Scissors). There will also be casual events for all ages throughout each day.

Why Go?

Well, WPC isn’t just an ordinary competition. Sure, there are gyms and trainers and badges, but that’s not what makes it different. WPC16 is a festival dedicated to everyone who has ever loved Pokémon. Sure, there are battling competitions to get your teeth into if you love that sort of thing, but you don’t have to enter them if you don’t want to!

Accommodation Options

You may have already checked out all of our accommodation options, but if you haven’t, it’s worth a look. We can offer special rates at hotels and hostels right around Porto Alegre. Take a look here. Of course, if you already have your hotel sorted, or are staying with friends and family, that’s great too! Make sure to let us know where you’ll be staying so we can keep in touch.

What to Pack?

For many people, packing for a trip means tossing everything into a suitcase and hoping you have enough clothes and towels to last your vacation. However, there are a few important things to take into consideration before packing for your WPC16. To make sure that you do not forget anything when it comes time to travel, here is an easy checklist of items to bring with you.

Traveling from Glasgow Airport?

Airport taxis can be pricey, but there are a couple of things you can do to cut costs. If you have time before your flight, hop on one of Glasgow’s buses (yes, they work and won’t crush you). And if you have to catch an airport bus on your way back from WPC 16, don’t worry about buying two tickets for yourself; just hold up your card at both ends of the journey to show that you traveled from A to B. It’ll save you some cash!

Arriving at the Venue

Since there are so many different venues when you show up be sure to ask someone if they know where you’re supposed to go. You should be able to tell which is your competition by everyone else’s dress or lack of it.

If it’s a tournament day, then you’ll need to find out when it starts and sign up as soon as possible. Once you get in line for registration, don’t be afraid to ask questions about what to do; no one will mind because most people will have been in your shoes at some point before.

Also, make sure that you get a copy of all rules and regulations just in case something comes up later on that was not covered during registration. Finally, take time during registration to look around at other competitors because observing them can give you an idea of what kind of strategy they might use during battle.

Venue, Rules & Schedule

This year, WPC will be held at Playland (Kroonstad) in South Africa. It will begin Friday, October 7th, 2016, and end Sunday, October 9th. There will be a pre-event training day on Thursday for all trainers who have entered – if you’re not registered yet but wish to participate you can enter here. See below for more details on what that entails! Don’t forget to register by September 15th!

Format and Structure Overview – Day 1

Day 1 of WPC will be divided into two group stages. The first group stage, occurring on Friday, will pit players against other Trainers of similar skill levels. Each Trainer will have a team of six Pokémon with which to battle their opponents; each Trainer may use up to three Pokémon in each battle.

At the end of each battle, if either Trainer has lost all three of their Pokémon, that Trainer is eliminated from the competition and drops out of contention for a prize or award (if applicable). If both Trainers still have at least one active Pokémon remaining after a battle concludes, they are both allowed to send out new teams and continue battling until only one remains standing.

Format & Structure Overview – Day 2

For most competitors, Day 2 of WPC is a study in contrast. How will you handle pressure when you’re already close to second place?

Will you be able to keep your cool and play your game when all eyes are on you? WPC players have handled Day 2 very differently; now it’s time for you to try. Like any format, it doesn’t matter whether you win or lose here – play your game, relax, and enjoy yourself! We’ll see how it goes! Good luck!
