Kortney and Kenny: A Sister and Brother Act Like No Other

Kortney and Kenny aren’t just your average brother and sister, they are what they do best and if you live anywhere in the Los Angeles area you have probably seen them perform at least once before! They started performing when they were about 6 years old and as time went on, people started to take notice of their unique talent as well as their on-stage chemistry which made everyone want to see them again!

Meet the Dickman’s

Meet Kortney, a high school senior whose relentless determination has led her to competitions all over Canada. Competing in a sport dominated by men—and being one of the very few women in her category—hasn’t stopped Kortney from breaking records, crushing expectations, and even taking home gold. She is determined to prove that she deserves a spot among some of the weightlifting’s biggest names.

And what about Kenny? He’s an 11-year-old who doesn’t know the meaning of the word quit. With the help of his sister’s coaching and support, he’s already set national records for his age group, winning first place at many weightlifting events throughout North America. His sister will do anything to keep him on track as he prepares for his biggest competition yet: the Youth World Championships in Hungary this September.

From Teenage Hurdlers to YouTube Stars

Kortney and Kenny began their athletic journey when they were six years old, as one of a handful of pairs in American Track & Field’s inaugural Youth Development Program. Within two years, they had perfected not only hurdle technique but also comedic timing; all it took was asking their parents to record some races from home. The siblings uploaded their first video on December 2nd, 2009, exactly five years ago today.

It wasn’t long before the videos earned a following with the result being over 4 million views. It didn’t take long for other YouTubers to notice either, leading them to make numerous guest appearances in videos by OBE1isback and Corridor Digital. Their reach has extended far beyond YouTube though, with even President Obama mentioning them during his 2012 campaign stop at George Mason University—even though he pronounced their name wrong!

How They Became Influencers

Kortney & Kenny both started their influencer career in 2015, when they were only 9 years old. With a combined following of over 2 million subscribers, Kortney & Kenny are best known for their creative family vlogs that showcase their everyday lives. People seem to connect with our content because we’re a relatable family doing relatable things, says Kortney.

I think people can relate to the fact that we’re not just famous kids who just go to events or something, Kenny adds. It’s actually like our real life. We do everything from being silly at home to playing games outside and going on adventures, so it really is a day-to-day thing. The HypeFam has grown into more than just a channel; it’s become an actual lifestyle brand. Their YouTube channel features their own clothing line called The Hype Collection which you can find on Amazon!

What Makes Them Special?

Each year, thousands of people are in need of a kidney transplant. Only 10% receive one within a five-year period. More than 78,000 people are on waiting lists for organ donations. Kidneys can be especially hard to come by, with 4 million Americans suffering from renal disease (including end-stage renal disease). Nearly 800 new patients develop the end-stage renal disease every day—most under age 65. And many more experience kidney failure due to diabetes or high blood pressure.

Currently, there is no cure for kidney failure; dialysis treatments only keep the body functioning until the next donor comes along. Kortney and Kenny provide that donor. Today, Kortney and Kenny have donated their kidneys a combined 20 times–one kidney each time–to strangers who needed them. They don’t know any of their recipients, but they do it because they’re simply following what Jesus told them to do when he said love your neighbor as yourself.
Kenny has had three years’ worth of hospitalizations for his donated kidneys, but this just reinforces their decision to donate another kidney if needed.

Why We Love Them

There are a lot of things to love about Kortney & Kenny. For starters, they’re twin siblings. Secondly, they rap. Thirdly, they were signed by Jay-Z’s label – Def Jam Recordings – at only 16 years old! Last but not least, they met Jay-Z! They got to talk with him on the phone while he was filming the video for Run this Town (which features Rihanna). So what did they say?

It was pretty much the best thing ever, according to their dad. The twins told us that when their dad passed them the phone, all they could do was scream into it before hanging up as quickly as possible because it was just too overwhelming! They also said that it felt like a dream come true.

The Future For Kortney And Kenny

Kortney And Kenny are an interesting pair. Their music is a mixture of genres, but it’s undeniable that pop is their forte. What sets them apart from other musicians, however, is their relationship. Unlike many pop groups that are made up of people who have never met before (or just happened to be in a room at one time), Kortney And Kenny have been playing together since they were toddlers. They don’t know what it would be like to go through life without each other.
While the future looks bright for these two, there are no guarantees that their success will last forever.
